‘Winston’s Spectacular Cakes’ will kick off Churchill’s 150th birthday year, with a series of hand-selected archive photographs showcasing some of the most spectacular birthday bakes Churchill received in his lifetime.
Historic photographs from TopFoto have been colourised specially for the display. They vividly tell the story of Churchill’s birthdays and enable visitors to get a true sense of the creativity and flair of the bakes.
After the Second World War (1939 – 1945), Churchill’s birthday became a moment of great interest for both the press and the public. Photographers would descend on his home to see the cakes, each of which were designed to showcase his career, achievements and interests in sponge and icing.
